Android POS for a Compact Café Counter

Olivetti TAO combines touchscreen order entry and receipt printing in one compact café counter terminal.

A busy café counter has to accommodate order entry, payment, receipts and collection. TAO brings a tiltable 10.1-inch touchscreen and an integrated receipt printer into a compact 244 x 200 mm footprint, leaving space for the rest of the service area. The café’s Android POS application handles menus, modifiers and transactions, with printer and payment integration checked for the chosen setup.

The counter requirement

Plan for the busiest part of service: staff need to enter modifiers, print a receipt, take payment and recover quickly from an error. A small terminal is useful only if the complete workspace fits. Include space for the payment device, receipt collection, power supply and access to change the paper.

The counter setup

TAO combines a tiltable 10.1-inch touchscreen and an integrated receipt printer in a 244 x 200 mm footprint. The supplier brochure specifies Android 12 and 4 GB RAM, with 32 GB standard storage and a 64 GB option. Match the configuration to the application’s installation, update and data requirements, and keep the printer accessible for paper changes.

From order entry to receipt

Menus, modifiers, discounts and refunds all form part of the café’s daily order flow. The Android POS application needs to support TAO’s integrated printer for receipts and reprints, along with cash-drawer control where required. Kitchen tickets need their own supported printing route. Check the complete order flow through the intended application before rollout.

Payments, connectivity and support

Choose a payment integration supported by the software provider and acquirer. Confirm the payment hardware separately from the POS terminal, along with the network connection and any adapters needed for the supplied configuration. For multiple sites, agree device enrolment, application updates and remote support on the selected management platform.

Ready for the service counter

Receipt printing, paper replacement and order corrections need to fit around the service routine. Use a repeatable check to confirm printing and recovery after a network or power interruption. Include staff reach, screen angle and access to the printer when checking the complete counter layout.

Common questions

Does TAO need a separate receipt printer?expand_more
