Android POS for a Dual-Screen Retail Counter

Olivetti NOVA 1000 brings a wide operator touchscreen and a separate customer display to the retail counter.

At a retail checkout, staff need space for products, discounts and stock lookups while customers need a clear view of their order. NOVA 1000 pairs a 15.6-inch Full HD operator touchscreen with a separate 10.1-inch customer display. The POS application controls the basket, totals and promotional content shown on each screen.

The counter requirement

An operator needs enough display space for products, discounts and stock lookups. The customer needs a clear view of the basket and total. The design should also allow the customer-facing screen to show promotions when the application permits, without exposing staff controls or another customer’s information.

The counter setup

NOVA 1000 provides a 15.6-inch Full HD operator touchscreen and a separate 10.1-inch customer display. Place a compatible receipt printer, scanner and payment terminal around it after checking reach, cables and access for maintenance. The available USB and network ports provide connection options, but each peripheral still needs application and driver validation.

Order information on the customer screen

The customer-facing screen gives the basket and total their own place at the counter. Independent display content requires support in the POS application or an integration, including the transition between order details and idle promotions. Check normal baskets, cancelled lines, discounts and refunds so the information remains consistent throughout the transaction.

Payment integration

Built-in NFC on NOVA provides an option to investigate SoftPOS; it does not establish that a particular payment service is approved or ready. Validate the application and acquirer arrangement for the intended market, or use a supported external payment terminal. Include declined transactions and connection failures in the test script.

Reliable checkout in daily use

A complete checkout brings the application, displays, receipt printer and payment device together. Check that basket details match between screens, receipts print correctly and staff can recover after a network interruption. Include operator comfort and access for maintenance in the checks before rollout.
